Last chance to adopt a free street tree!
The Grow Back Together project has successfully secured more than 80 Tree Guardians who have agreed to take on the watering and care of a new street tree for the next three years.
More tree locations have now been added to the Grow Back Together map. If you are interested in becoming a Guardian for a tree, why not find out whether there is a tree pit near where you live and work?
Tree Guardians are key to the Grow Back Together project. Trees are most vulnerable during their first three years due to lack of water, and need support so they can establish and thrive. Being a Tree Guardian is a commitment, but it actually means just watering and weeding a street tree.
Anyone who lives or works in Lewisham can get involved as long as they live or work within 50 metres of one of the vacant tree pits. Look out for the ‘tree here’ stencils marking the approximate tree locations on pavements.
Once you have expressed interest in becoming a Tree Guardian, we will let you know by July 2023 if you have been successful. Our aim is to plant 100 full size street trees in different locations in the Borough of Lewisham by the end of 2023.
Street Trees for Living, Greentalk and Lewisham Council have joined forces to create the Grow Back Together project through the Mayor of London’s Grow Back Greener Fund.
